FX Networks
From New Zealand VoIP Users Group
FX Networks provides the VX, a nation-wide, robust, and scalable voice over IP service. This allows connected customers to exchange voice traffic directly - irrespective of physical location on the network. The VX also enables you to get to the PSTN as well. The VX architecture is protected by a nationally distributed anycast architecture.
Voice Peering
What this means is that if you're VoIP enabled and you call another VoIP enabled peer, your call goes direct across the VX - eliminating the need for calls to transit the traditional PSTN.
These on-net calls have no per minute costs - be they across town, or to the other end of the country. Talk as much as you want. Not only is this cost effective but it keeps calls IP end to end, resulting in higher voice quality due to the elimination of multiple VoIP/PSTN conversions.
PSTN Connectivity
FX Networks can provide PSTN connectivity, including carriage of outbound calls, and inbound DDI numbers in a number of calling regions. We provide competitive outbound calling rates of a high voice quality to both NZ and internationally.
FX Networks PSTN connectivity is also great for those that don't want the hassle or the costs of establishing your PSTN gateway. Managed VoIP PABX
Through our partners, we are able to provide fully managed and cost effective VoIP PABX solutions (including Hosted PBX). This provides all the usual PABX functions such as voicemail, DDI routing, extension dialling, call transfers / hold music, and call detail records, and business style telephones providing convenient access to these functions.
Our managed VoIP PABX is a small server located on the customer's site and provides VoIP Peering and PSTN connectivity through your FX Networks internet connection.

Technical Details
All of our ISP customers are able to take advantage of FX Networks Voice Services.
FX Networks Voice traffic travels over our own national backbone and receives priority treatment, so we provide the best voice quality possible. In addition we have a direct relationship with connected parties and maintain the integrity and quality of the voice network. In addition we maintain the authenticity of connected parties - so when you dial a number on the VX, you can be assured that the callee is indeed the real 'owner' of that number.
All you need to connect to the VX is a SIP enabled PABX, be it a native VoIP PABX, a Legacy PABX with SIP expansion card, or a Legacy PABX combined with a TDM to SIP gateway.
In addition to making your current PSTN numbers into the VX it is also possible to obtain on-net only numbers. On-net only numbers allow you to call and be called by all other VX connected parties. These can be used to hook up remote offices to a central PABX, or anywhere else where on-net only voice connectivity is all that is required.
Supported SIP PABXs:
All PABXs adhering to the SIP standard should work with the VX. Some of those currently in use are:
- Cisco CallManager
- Cisco CallManager Express
- Cisco IOS Voice Gateways (2800, AS5400 etc.)
- Asterisk
- Sip Express Router
- Linksys SPA9000 IP PBX
